"Exploring Oriental Sensory Wonderland" 12. International Snoezelen Congress in Seoul, Korea from 3rd to 5th of October 2014
At the 12th International congress in a well-known rehabilitation centre in Seoul participants will gain an insight into the intervention method of Snoezelen through a range of theoretical and practical presentations. The theoretical lectures from different fields such as developmental psychology, pedagogy, medicine and IT form the base for didactic-methodical deliberations in workshops. The link between Asian and European concepts will be particularly interesting. How do experts cooperate? Are there similarities? Which methods and contents connect us? In what context is it appealing and also necessary to find one's own way? Are there cultural differences in Snoezelen which will reflect in concepts and have to be taken into account? Speakers from Korea, Japan and Germany demonstrate and discuss with participants examples for all age and target groups - from baby and toddler to elderly people - with or without impairments. Lecturers from universities and colleges will address participants in presentations and workshops to talk about theoretical basics of Snoezelen such as Snoezelen with people with mental disabilities (Dr. med. K. Skrodzki), efficiency measurements in Snoezelen (Prof. Dr. Beate Meffert), the basic concept of Snoezelen when working with children with severe brain damage (Prof. Seung Guk Moon), the role of parents in therapeutic-pedagogical fields of work (Prof. Dr. Youn Kyung Cho).
The congress offers the opportunity to visit theoretical and practical workshops together with professionals who have obtained the scientifically recognised "additional qualification Snoezelen". Manufacturers will illustrate the newly equipped Snoezelen rooms during break times. Presentations with reference to the philosophical background of pedagogical and therapeutic work in Korea which is reflected in Snoezelen practice will be of interest. In the program you will find topics such as "honour in Korean Confucianism" (Prof. Kem Seoung Hyen) or a practical workshop based on the Korean national holiday "Chusek" (full moon festival). The Buddhist monk Zong Zin will introduce his form of meditation and participants will have the opportunity to experience it for themselves. The subsequent congress trip will take participants to the bizarre rocky mountains of the province Gangwon, venue of the Winter Olympics 2018. During the closing ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 viewers could gain a first insight into the culture of the Republic of Korea. The congress will provide an insight into the application of Snoezelen as promotion and therapy and purely as a relaxation method and contribute to its implementation in Asia with culture specific aspects. The international Snoezelen Association (ISNA) - Snoezelen professional e.V. warmly invites colleagues from pedagogy, psychology, therapy and medical professions, health care professionals and meditation practitioners as well as relatives and carers of people with disabilities. Congress languages are German, English, Korean and Japanese. After the congress the German group will go on a four day trip to visit the cultural sites of the country (UNESCO- world cultural heritage). You are warmly invited to join the trip. We are happy to help with the booking and finding accommodation (bed and breakfast about 60 Euro). A return flight to Seoul will cost about 800 Euro.
